Her Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Listowel on Saturday December 29th 2013. Burial afterwards in St Michael’s Cemetery, Listowel.

DEATH: Mike Joe Stack of Toohanna, Lisselton born January 12th 1910 died 16th January 2013. Survived by his wife Margaret. Mike Joe always had affection for Knockanure as his grandmother was Catherine Stack of Carrueragh, Knockanure she married Tom Stack of Ballyconery, Lisselton on 2nd February 1861. Catherine was daughter of Tom Stack. Requiem mass for Mike Joe Stack at Ballydonoghue Church on Friday 18th January 2013, burial in St. John’s Cemetery, Ballybunion.

 

Fr Pat Scanlan, from Lisselton, County Kerry died peacefully in hospital on 15th January 2013. Pat usually called Padraig by his local friends, was ordained in 1954 and was originally assigned to Nigeria. He subsequently moved to Kenya, where he continued to work in Eldoret and then Kitaled dioceses until his return to Ireland just over a year ago. In his retirement he enjoyed the visits of very large numbers of friends and family including large number of contacts from his Kenya days.

Father Patrick; Scanlon, deeply regretted by his first cousins the Hanrahan families, his relatives, friends, neighbours and his Kiltegan family. Fr. Patrick is pre- deceased by his sister Joan and his brothers Michéal and Liam. Requiem Mass for Fr. Patrick at St Patrick's Chapel on Friday 18th January 2012, followed by Burial in the St. Patrick's Missionary Society, Kiltegan, Cemetery. His parents were Cait Hanrahan and Paddy Scanlon.

DEATH has occurred of Joseph Vincent Buckley age 72, of Massapequa Park, NY and Main Street Moyvane, on January 21st 2013, father of Kelly O'Boyle (Carl), Michael, Sean and Ryan. Also survived by his brother Fr. Michael and sister Marie. Joe was a restaurant owner on Long Island for the past 40 years of The Jolly Tinker (Rockville Centre); Katie Daly's (Massapequa) and Molly Malone's (Bay Shore). Mass for Joe on Friday 25th 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Massapequa, NY. Interment to follow at Grace Cemetery Massapequa. Joe Buckley was son of Michael Buckley and Nora Shine both of Moyvane Parish, he was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Liam who died in 2009, Fr Denis, Con, John, Donie, Paddy, Ned and Kit.

Death occurred on 23rd January 2013 of Sr. Joan Corridan of Kanturk and Mallow and late of Duagh. Sr. Joan of the Convent of Mercy was sister of the late Tim, Ned, Moss and Mary. Requiem Mass for Sr. Joan was celebrated 25th January in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kanturk. Sr. Joan Corridan was laid to rest in the adjoining Convent Cemetery.

DEATH has taken place of Marie Lyons nee Buckley of Ballyloughlan, Glin and formerly of Main Street, Moyvane. Marie was predeceased by her husband Percy and is survived by son John, daughter Margaret, brother Fr. Michael, daughter in law Anna, son in law John-Paul, grandchildren Jeremiah, Marian, and Seamus. Requiem Mass for Marie was celebrated at Church of the Immaculate Conception Glin on Tuesday 29th January 2013. Burial afterwards in Kilfergus cemetery Glin Marie was predeceased by parents Michael Buckley and Nora Shine both of Moyvane Parish and siblings, Joe who died last week, Liam who died in 2009, Fr Denis, Con, John, Donie, Paddy, Ned and Kit.

DEATH has occurred of Brendan Keane of Clounprohus, Moyvane. Brendan is Survived by his wife Bridie, son David, daughter Catríona, brothers Jerry, Teddy, Mike, Liam, P.J. and Eddie, uncles Tony, John, Pat and Tom, and aunts Mary and Kathleen. Requiem Mass for Brendan was celebrated at The Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Saturday 2nd of February 2013, Brendan Keane was laid to rest afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure. Brendan was son of Kit Dunne and Donie Keane.

DEATH took place on 29th January 2013 of Sr. Ethna Quille Formerly of Derrindaff, Duagh and the Mercy Convent, Rosscarbery. She is survived by her brother John. Her brother William Quille died in October 2012. Requiem mass for Sr. Ethna was celebrated at St. Fachtna's Parish Church, Rosscarbury. Sr. Eithna was laid to rest in the Convent Cemetery, Rosscarbury, Co Cork.

Sr. Ethna Quille former Maths teacher at Mt. St. Michael, Rosscarbury. The school was founded in 1894 by the Mercy Order, In 1964 the school became co-educational and at the same time the boarding facilities became available in the Convent. Students boarded from all over Ireland and from further afield. It was an ideal for students from the nearby coastal islands like Cape Clear.

DEATH has taken place of Nora Walsh nee McMahon of Upper Dirreen, Athea, on January 31st, 2013, she was aged 85, predeceased by her husband Joe; survived by her, daughters Katrina, and Gerardine, sons Eddie, & Conor . Requiem Mass for Nora Walsh was celebrated in Athea Church on 5th February 2013, she was laid to rest following mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea.

DEATH: Hannah Murphy nee Healy in her 81st year and on her 60th Wedding Anniversary, passed away on 13th February 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family. She is sadly missed by her husband Liamy, sons Pat, Martin, Joe, Kieran, Frankie, T.J., Adrian, Damien and Paul, daughters Bridget, Margaret, Geraldine & Theresa, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Mary Horgan in Knockanure, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends. Requiem Mass for Hannah Murphy was celebrated on Friday 15th at 12 noon in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Athea, burial after in Holy Cross Cemetery.

 

DEATH took place on February 11th 2013 of Sr. Austin Brosnan late of Presentation Convent Listowel and Inchabee, Farranfore and Fatima Home, Tralee. She was daughter of Pat Brosnan and Ellen Collins and was born on 22 April 1916 and called Margaret Mary. Sr Austin was professed at Oakpark, Tralee in 1939 and then went teaching at the Presentation Convent in Listowwel. In the 1970s she went to help with religious teaching and charitable work in California, returning to Listowel in 1991, straight away she became involved in numerous charitable and religious activities, then he brother Monsignor John became ill and she cared for him for some time. Sr Austin Brosnan was pre-deceased by her brothers, Monsignor John, Brother Carthage, Jerry and his wife Mary, Patsy and Dick and nephew Tom; deeply regretted by her loving Presentation Community, her niece Eileen, nephews Paddy, Ned, John, and Jeremiah, grandnieces, grandnephews. Requiem Mass for Sr. Austin Brosnan was celebrated on Wednesday 13th February ’13, Burial afterwards in the Presentation Convent Plot, St. Michael's Cemetery Listowel.

DEATH took place Saturday, February 16, 2013 Kathleen Kennelly nee Anglim of Shanaway, Tarbert, Co Kerry. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Dermot and is Survived by sons, Con and Dan, daughters Mai and Joan and grandchildren, Requiem Mass for Kathleen Kennelly was celebrated at St Mary's Church, Tarbert on Monday 18 February 2013, Burial afterwards in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane.

DEATH took place on 17 February 2013 of Eileen Larkin who was born at Rathea, Listowel and was Retired Public Health Nurse, Ballybunion. Requiem Mass for Eileen was celebrated on 19th February 2013 in St. Bridget's Church, Duagh. Her body was donated to Medical Science, University College Cork.

DEATH on 17th February 2013 of Eileen Larkin, late of Rathea, Listowel and Ballybunion. Daughter of Jim Larkin and Bridget Sweeney born 1927. She was predeceased by her brother Moss who died as a child and Anthony who lived in AtheaEileen graduated as a nurse in Rochdale in 1951, after working at several locations, she came back to Kerry in the 1960s as Public Nurse in Ballybunion.

DEATH has taken place of Maureen Lyons nee Barry, Sandhill Road, Ballybunion, Aras Mhuire Nursing Home, Listowel and late of Derry, Listowel. Maureen was predeceased about 24 years ago by her husband Jim Lyons who was also a native of Derry, Listowel. Maureen was daughter of Paddy Barry and Bridget McCoy. Her siblings included Kit, Bridie, Phil, Pat Joe, Tom, Vincent, Stephen, Mike , Liz and Peg. Requiem Mass for Maureen took place at St. Mary’s Church, Listowel on 21 February 2013. Maureen Lyons was laid to rest beside her husband in St. John’s Cemetery, Ballybunion, she was aged 92 years.

DEATH: Teady (Tim) Quaid of Ballybunion and formerly of Dirreen, Athea. Survived by his wife Nora, daughter Mary & her husband Trevor, sons Tim, Tommy, Mark & his partner Jackie, Darren & his partner Dianne, grandchildren, Aunt Nellie Ahern, brothers Michael, Denis, Tommy & Billy, sisters Breda, Ellen and Nora Mary, He was laid to rest in Knockanure after Requiem Mass at Athea Church on Sunday last 24 February 2013. Sympathy to the O’Connor family Glenastar, Ardagh, on the death of Nora’s husband Tim, Thady Quaid was involved in the GAA and was a good player . Members of his family have also been very much involved in the GAA, his younger brother Thomas played football for Limerick

 

 

 

DEATH of Padraic Liston, of Ballybunion and Cork on 7 February 2013. He survived by his wife, Eileen, (née McMahon), he was father of Colm, Emer and Ellen, brother to Donal, Eoin, Máire and Sean and son of Owen and the late Noreen. Sadly missed by his loving wife, family, mother-in-law Eileen, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, Following Requiem Mass Padraic Liston was laid to rest at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Kilcully.

Padraig’s father Owen Liston was a native of Athea and his brother Eoin (the Bomber) Liston had been one of the Kerry Senior Football team’s stars for several years. Padraig’s aunt late Kit Aherne had been a North Kerry member of Kerry County Council in her younger days and was later a Fianna Fáil North Kerry Deputy in Dáil Éireann.

 

 

SEAN Óg Ó Ceallacháin was a journalist, author and broadcaster and former Gaelic footballer and hurler with Dublin and Eoghan Ruadh. He was born in Newcastlewest, County Limerick, and grew up in Fairview, County Dublin where he attended a Gaelscoil . Sean Óg O’Ceallacháin died 17 February 2013. His uncle was D.J. Madden Fine Gael T.D for Limerick West during the 1940′s/50′s and he worked with Paddy Langan who was a Labour Co. Councillor at that time. Sean Óg’s mother was Fannie Madden from Ballyhahill.

WORSE than the Titanic: In April 1865, at least 1,700 people, mostly Union soldiers returning home after the end of the Civil War, lost their lives when the riverboat exploded on the Mississippi. Of an estimated 2,300 people on board at least 1,700 lost their lives that night, including Captain Mason.

MARGARET Gordon (Peggie) nee Relihan died on the 15th February 2013 at Good Hope Hospital. Peggie is survived by husband, Martin and daughter Norah and sister Mary, family and friends. Mass for Peggy was celebrated at St Margaret Mary Church,Perry Common Road, Erdington, Birmingham on March 1st 2013. . Requiem Mass was celebrated for Margaret Gordon in Listowel Church on Sunday 3rd March 2013 , she was laid to rest afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure. Margaret Gordon was daughter of daughter of Denny Relihan and Margaret Leahy of Beenanaspig, Kilmorna, and was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Sweeney in Feb. 2012, also predeceased by brothers, Tim, Danny and Johnny.

DEATH took place on 7th March 2013 of Billy Casey of

Lower Athea, Predeceased by his wife Kathleen Mulvihill a native of Glin. Survived by his son John, daughters, Martina, Mary and Margaret, brother Denis in Chicago, sisters Margaret and Sr. Eileen. He was predeceased by siblings Sean who died 2008 in New York, Mike who is buried in Athea, Sr. Angela who died over 20 years ago and Mary O Sullivan. William Casey was born about 84 years ago in Athea to Jack Casey and Mary Dalton. Requiem Mass for Bill Casey was celebrated by Fr. Bowen and Canon Kelly at St. Bartholomew's Church, Athea on Sunday 10th March 2013, he was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea, beside his wife Kathleen who died in 2002 and his brother Mike.

Requiem mass for Sr. Gemma was celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Listowel on Wednesday13th March ‘13 Interment afterwards in the Presentation Plot in St. Michael's Cemetery, Listowel.Sr. Gemma was daughter of John Mc Grath and Margaret Culloty and was born in 1925.

DEATH took place on March 10th 2013, of Sr. Eithne (Maureen), Casey of Presentation Convent, Turners Cross, and Kiskeam. Survived by her sister Bridget Collis, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. Requiem Mass for Sr. Eithne Casey was celebrated at Christ King Church Turners Cross, Cork on Tuesday 12th March 2013, Sr. Eithne was laid to rest at Kiskeam Cemetery.

 

DEATH took place of Carol Ann Flahavan of Moyvane North and England, Carol Ann is survived by her husband Chris and son and daughter. Following requiem Mass in Moyvane Church n 11th march 2013, Carol Ann Flahavan was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure. She was active in several community organisations in the Parish and will be sadly missed.

DEATH took place recently in England of Noirin Kiely a native of Aughrim, Moyvane. Noirin is survived by her mother Madge and siblings, Mike, Philip, Billy, Kevin, Paul, Thomas, Mary, Anne and Eileen.

DEATH took place on 12 March 2013 of Ann O’Sullivan née Lyons, 25 Mountain View, Killorglin and formerly of Derry, Listowel. Requiem Mass for Ann O Sullivan was celebrated on Thursday 14th March 2013 in St.James’s Church, Killorglin. Ann was laid to rest at Ardmoneel Cemetery.

DEATH took place on 6th March 2013 of Bobby Buckley of The Green, Ballyheigue, husband of Eileen, father of Donal, Cathryn, Ann, Paddy, Susan, Frances, Niamh, Roma and Eileen and brother of Danny, Patsy, Sally and the late Tommy and Sr. Josephine. Bobby was born at Coolaclarig, Listowel to Dan and Hannah Buckley in 1931, he married Eileen O Donoghue in 1957. Requiem Mass for Bobby Buckley was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Ballyheigue on 9 March 2013. He was laid to rest afterwards in St. Mary's New Cemetery Ballyheigue. Bobby was well known as a footballer and was actively involved in education matters in Kerry. In 1973, Bobby Buckley was appointed CEO of Cork Co Vocational Education Committee, Bobby oversaw the creation of community colleges in County Cork and independent Board of Management for each school in the county with the cooperation of Fr Denis O’Callaghan.

DEATH took place on March 30th 2013 of Sr. Nora Francis born at Lahesrough, Ballybunion to to Patrick and Hanna Francis on March 24th 1918. She was the last surviving member of her family, was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. Sr. Nora qualified as a nurse in 1940 at Rochdale, she entered the Little Sisters of the Assumption in 1944, she first worked in the Dublin area and the went to Limerick in 1970 and worked there for 30 years.

 

DEATH took place on 17th April 2013 of Teresa Holly, nee O'Connor of Convent Cross, Listowel and formerly of Leitrim West, Moyvane. Teresa was predeceased by her husband Thomas Holly and son Denis Holly, survived by her sister Betty (USA), nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces. Following Requiem Mass at St Mary's Church, Listowel on Saturday 20th April 2013 Teresa Holly was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery, Gale Bridge, Knockanure.

The O Brien family lived in the Small Square Listowel near Fred Mann. Kay is survived by her husband Ted Hattley. Her siblings include Joan Brassil, Moyvane, Paddy died at sea in the Neptune in 1941, Murragh died as a child and Edmund. Mass for Kay Hattley was celebrated in London on 8th May 2013.

May 2013; Rev. Andrew Greeley, the outspoken Roman Catholic priest, best-selling novelist and sociologist known for his deeply researched academic appraisals and sometimes scathing critiques of his church, died Wednesday night, several years after fracturing his skull in a freakish fall in Rosemont. Rev. Greeley died in his sleep at his apartment at the John Hancock Center, according to his spokeswoman, June Rosner. He was 85. Rosner said Rev. Greeley had been in poor health since an accident on Nov. 7, 2008. He was at Advocate Lutheran General Medical Center when a piece of his clothing apparently got caught in the door of a departing taxi and he was thrown to the pavement.

 

 

 

DEATH took place on Wednesday 29th May 2013, of Sr. Mary Buckley, St. John of God Convent, Kilkenny and late of Ballylongford. Requiem Mass for Sr. Mary was celebrated on Saturday 1st June 2013, in St. Patrick's Church, Kilkenny followed by burial in Lislaughlin Abbey Cemetery, Ballylongford.

 

She was daughter of John Buckley and Catherine Relihan.

 

 

DEATH: Netta O’Flaherty, RIP, Warrenpoint, Co. Down died recently, her ancestors came from Knockanure and Netta was a regular visitor to the parish.

DEATH took place on 27th May 2013 of Fiona Moore aged 16 years she was daughter of Martin and Deirdre Moore of Tralee. Fiona is survived by her parents, brother Killian, aunts, uncles and cousins. Fiona was granddaughter of Michael and Breda Moore of Listowel, grandniece of Maureen Nolan of Moyvane and Eileen Kennelly of Listowel.

DEATH has taken place of Mary O’Connor (nee Mulvihill) 4 The Cross, Ardagh, and formerly of Blaine, Athea, Mary was a native of Blaine and had one sister Joan. Mary and her husband Michael from Castlemahon, came to Ardagh Cross in the 1960’s. They raised a family of nine, five girls and four boys. The death of her daughter Joanne in 2010 was a heavy cross to bear for the family. At Saint Molua’s Church Ardagh. Fr Larry Madden celebrated her Funeral Mass, assisted by Canon Frank Duhig on Thursday 30th May. Burial took place beside her late daughter Joanne, in the family plot in Ardagh Cemetery.

Grandfather of Daniel and Caitlin Riordan, Kyle and Bryan Schwaba, Joseph, Martin, and David Walsh, Connor and Morgan Nesemeier, and Grace, Nora and Anna Elliott. Brother of Mary Ellen (Mickey) Flaherty, Betty (Pat) Griffin, Brendan (Eileen) Riordan, Helen (Pat) Haugh, Dan Joe, (Mai) Riordan and Catherine (John) Fitzpatrick. David Riordan was son of Dan Riordan and Ellen Kelly of Moyvane. Funeral Mass at St. Eugene Church, Chicago and Interment in All Saints Cemetery on 19th June 2013. Requiem Mass for Maggie Kennelly was celebrated at Church of Corpus Christi Knockanure on Wednesday the 26th June 2013, by Fr Lucid, Fr McMahon and Fr O Callaghan. Maggie Kennelly was laid to rest afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure, beside her husband Tom who died in June 1984.

Maggie Kennelly was daughter of Pat Shanahan and Catherine Enright and was aged 94 years, she was predeceased by her only sister Mary in September 2000, her grandfather who lived to a ripe old age could recall the great famine.

DEATH took place of Seamus Vaughan of Upper Direen, Athea, on 30th June 2013, aged 92 years. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Sheehan who was a native of Kilbaha. Seamus is survived by sons Joe, Myles, Richard, James and Thomas, daughters Margaret (Dalton), Carmel (Reidy), Shelia (O'Riordan), Helen (Ryan), Catherine (Enright), Joan Marie (Hassett-Hartnett), Breda (Foley) and Aine (Reidy), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law. Requiem Mass for Seamus Vaughan was celebrated in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Athea, on 2nd of July 2013, chief celebrant Fr Bowen assisted by Canon Kelly and Fr Duggan, hymns and music was supplied by Jack O Rourke, Marlene Enright and Joe Foley. Seamus was laid to rest afterwards in Holycross Cemetery, Athea beside his wife Mary who died in September 2010.

DEATH took place of Annie Murphy nee Relihan on August 21st 2013. Annie Mary Relihan was born at Knockadireen, Duagh on January 1st 1911 To Tom Relihan and Ann Stack. Annie Mary married Francis Murphy in 1938. they had one son Kevin who survives her. Ann and Francis Murphy lived in several places including the Isle Wight, Wallington, Surrey, where Francis died in 1996. Ann Murphy was laid to rest at Wallington. She was predeceased by her four siblings, she was the youngest of her family. Her grandmother Catherine Connell Relihan lived to be over 103 years, Catherine was a native of Knocknagorna, Athea.

DEATH took place 17th July 2013 unexpectedly of Johnny McEnery of Knockanure, Moyvane and Caherdown, Listowel. He is survived by his wife Helen Godley, father of Martha, Edel, Eoghan and Muireann, much loved Granddad of Lucy-Kate, Caoilfhionn and Isabella, brother of Pat Joe and sister of Mary, he was predeceased by his brother Denis. Requiem Mass for Johnny McEnery was celebrated in Listowel Church on Saturday 20 July 2013, by Fr Lawlor assisted by Canon O Connor, Fr Lucid, Fr O Callaghan, Fr Sheehy, Sean Ahern sang the hymns and Liam Hanrahan a class mate and team mate of Johnny gave a few words in remembrance. Johnny McEnery was laid to rest afterwards in John Paul 11 cemetery, Listowel. Johnny was son of Pat McEnery and Margaret Buckley of Tubbertoureen, Moyvane was born 70 years ago, Married Helen 1968. Joined the AI Service 1979 and moved to Listowel 1990.

Johnny played his part in 1963 Moyvane team who won the North Kerry Championship and North Kerry League and also won the Frank Sheehy Tournament. The 1963 Moyvane team included, Eddie Stack (goal), Stevie Stack, P.J.Kennelly, Paudie Hanrahan, Brendan Sheehy, John McEnery, Timmy Hanrahan, Liam Hanrahan (Capt.), Maurice Stack, Des Broderick, Bernie O'Callaghan, Brendan Broderick, Tommy Mulvihill, Michael Hennessy, Colm O'Callaghan.

DEATH took place on 3rd July 2013 of Kathy O Donovan of Boston and late of Ballygurteen, Clonakilty. Kathy was daughter of the late William and Kathleen O'Donovan. Survived by her siblings, Eily (Twomey), Dan, Noelle (O'Callaghan of Moyvane), John, Barry, Frank, Flor, Mary (Nyhan), Marian (O'Shea) and Carmel (Duggan. DEATH took place on 21st July 2013 of Rev. Fr. Timothy (Thady) Gunn (Retired PP, Our Lady of the Rosary, Davyhulme, Manchester and late of Lyre, Lisselton. Fr. Thady was predeceased by his sister Nora; survived by his brothers Joe and John, sisters-in-law Kathleen and Catherine, nephews, nieces, grandnieces, fellow priests in the Diocese of Salford, cousins, relatives and friends. Requiem Mass for Fr Gunn was celebrated at St. Theresa`s Church, Ballydonoghue on 23rd July, followed by Interment in Lisselton Cemetery. Father Gunn was in his seventy-sixth year, the fiftieth year of his Sacred Priesthood.

Tim was born on 13th May 1938, and was baptised in the parish church in Ballydonoghue, was educated at Presentation College, Cork and St. Patrick’s College, Carlow. He was ordained by the Rt. Rev. Thomas Keogh, Bishop of Kildare, in Carlow Cathedral, on 6th June 1964.

DEATH has taken place of Sister Rosaleen Mangan, Sisters of Charity of St. Paul the Apostle, Sallypark, Birmingham, England and formerly of Glensharrold, Carrigkerry. She passed away on Monday 22nd of July 2013 in the Convent, on her 94th year. Eileen was a native of Glensharrold and one of twelve in family to Tom Mangan, and Ellen Aherne, she was sister Bridie Kiely Glensharrold . Eileen had second level education in the Convent Newcastle West; she enterred the convent in Sally Park Birmingham, in February 1937 she spent some time at a branch convent in 1939 . When the War was over she returned to Birmingham and following retreat and preparation she was professed. She spent time in Wallsall, Worcester, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and Warrington, teaching doing parish work and Hospital Chaplaincy and attained the position of Superior.

Her Funeral Mass in the Convent Chapel, Birmingham was concelebrated by her nephew Fr. Tom Mangan, P.P. Saint Joseph’s Parish Limerick, on Friday 26th July 2013. Sister Rosaleen Mangan, was laid to rest in Birmingham.

 

AUGUST 2013

 

 

DEATH has occurred on August 4th 2013 of John P Walsh, Barragougeen, Moyvane. Survived by wife Marie, sons Pat, Jerry, John Joe, James and Mike, daughters Helen, Ann, Theresa and Margaret, sisters, Josie in Duncaha, Mai in England and Margaret in Blennerville. His brother Paschal predeceased him. Requiem mass for John P Walsh was celebrated on Tuesday 6th 2013 in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane. John P Walsh was laid to rest afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure, beside his father Pat (1889-1972) who server in the US army and his mother Ellie Flaherty who was a native of Knockanure. Both John and his father were good at recitation.

DEATH took place on 2nd August 2013 of Michael O'Keeffe of Moybella, Lisselton at St. James's Hospital, Dublin. Survived by his wife Joan (Daly), daughters, Marie, Margaret and Catherine, sisters, Mary, Joan, Nora and Bridget, and brother John. Requiem Mass at St. Teresa's Church, Ballydonoghue on 6th August 2013, was celebrated by Fr Lawlor assisted by Fr Dillon and Fr Hagerty. Michael O Keeffe was laid to rest afterwards in John Paul II Cemetery, Listowel. Family members assisted Stephen Donegan with the music. Michael was predeceased by siblings, Patrick, Jerry, Katherine, and Eileen. His father was a native of Duagh.

DEATH occurred on 2nd August 2013 of Veronica (Vera) Keane (née Regan), Ard na Sidhe, Mounthawk, Tralee, formally of Dublin, London and Baltovin, Kilmoyley. Vera is survived by her husband Joe and family. Requiem Mass for Vera Keane was celebrated on Thursday 8th August 2013 in the Sacred Heart Church, Kilmoyley. DEATH took place on Aug. 19, 2013 of Sr. Patrick Tarrant of Presentation Convent, Tralee, sister of Mary (Byrne- Ahane, Cullen) and the late Sheila (O'Keeffe-Crookstown. Survived by her Presentation Sisters, nephews Con, Richie and Eamon, nieces Gobnait and Maura, grandnieces, grandnephews. Requiem Mass for Sr. Patrick was celebrated in St. John's Church on 21st August 2013 . Interment afterwards in Presentation Convent Cemetery.

 

The death took place on 12 August 2013 of Áine Nic Ghabhann, Carraig Na Móna, Caragh Lake, Killorglin. Co. Kerry and late of Colbert's Terrace, Abbeyfeale.

Áine was born in Killarney. She was educated at the Loreto Convent in Killarney and also at Sion Hill Convent in Dublin where she learned the Irish Harp.

She was a member of the Bunratty Castle Singers from 1963 to 1965 and performed with them in England, Scotland and New York and around the country..

In 1969 Aine attended UCC and studied for a Music Degree and Singing Diploma

She taught music and singing was a founder member of the Abbeyfeale Male Voice Choir . She was also Musical Director of the Abbeyfeale Youth Orchestra.

Áine Nic Gabhann was wife of Beirti Ó'Nunáin who taught Irish at the Vocational School in Abbeyfeale. Beirti Nunan died in 1983.

 

 

Tibnin Monument in South Lebanon, dedicated to the memory of 47 Irish personnel who died while on peacekeeping duty in Lebanon.

Present 108 Irish/Finnish Battalion made up of 332 Irish and 176 Finnish personnel are at Tiri area of South Lebanon. Irish Defence Forces, who have given 55 years of service on peacekeeping operations.

Mickie Joe was predeceased by brothers Patrick and Mort and Sister Marina.

Requiem Mass for Michael Joe Daly was celebrated in St. Brigid's Church, Duagh on 3rd September 2013 by Fr Moore PP, assisted by Fr Danaher (a cousin), Canon Linnane, Fr McMahon, Fr Dillon, Fr Relihan, Fr Kennelly, Fr Cussen, Fr Harnett, Fr Kennedy, Fr O Gorman and his neighbour Canon O Connor. Mickie Joe Daly son of Tom Daly and Mollie Foley was laid to Rest in nearby Springmount Cemetery where many generations of the Daly family are buried. GAA provided a guard of honour. Mickie Joe always made it the All Ireland all his life.

DEATH: Michael J Noonan of Crean, Bruff, died aged 78 years on 17th September 2013, is survived by his wife, Helen, his four daughters Marie, Anne, Catherine and Carmel and by his sons John and Pat, he was national president of Macra na Feirme in the 1960s. Was elected to the Dail on his first attempt in 1969 and served as a TD until 1997. Most remember him as Minister for Defence. On June 21st 2013 he welcomed Caroline Kennedy to Bruff. Michael was a pioneer and involved in a number of organisations in Bruff

DEATH took place on 30th September 2013 of Patsy Byrne of Moynsha House and Coolanelig, Duagh and London. Patsy survived by his wife of 41 years Bridget, sons Michael and Seán, daughter Siobhán, son-in-law David, daughters-in-law Louise and Michelle, grandchildren Patrick, George, Connell, Seamus, Mia, Jake and Ella, mother-in-law Nar, brother Johnny, sisters Helen, Lizzie and Mary. Requiem Mass for Patsy Byrne was celebrated on Thursday October 3rd at St Bridget’s Church Duagh by Fr Moore assisted by Fr Jerry Devlin and six other priests. Funeral afterwards to Springmount Cemetery Duagh. Among the attendance were; Niall Quinn, JP McManus, Michael Hourigan, Michael Lowry, Micheal O Muircheartaigh, Paddy Reilly.

The Chief Executive of The Byrne Group. He was a great supporter of the Irish community in Britain and charity events. Patsy was involved in the construction of the Olympic Stadium, the Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge and the new Centre and Number One Court at Wimbledon, with his brother Johnny. Byrne’s pink and blue colours were victorious recently with White Star Line in the Kerry National at Listowel Races.

His greyhound winners include, Irish Derby winner Cool Performance. Ballinderry Flash won the English Derby in 1991 he was jointly owned with Prince Edward . His Irish Cup winners, Castle Pines, Sandy Sea and Castlemartyr.

Requiem Mass for Marguerite Clancy celebrated in Listowel Church, by Fr Spring assisted by Canon O Connor and Fr Hagerty, burial afterwards in Killehenny Cemetery, Ballybunion on 15th October 2013. Marguerite was predeceased by siblings, Jim, John, Stan, Maurice, Michael, Una and (Catherine) Cissy, their father John J was a native of Knockanure and their mother was from Lisselton.

DEATH took place on 3rd October 2013 of Mai Mullane,( nee Shanahan of Glenbawn) of Templeathea. She was in her eighties , was predeceased by her husband Bill. Her requiem mass was concelebrated by her son Fr Denis Mullane being the Chief Celebrant. Over 20 priests were in attendance at the mass and all joined in the beautiful singing with Maura and Donie Nolan and their group. Burial followed in Holy Cross on 6th October 2013. Mai is survived by her sister Bridie, daughter Mary, sons Fr Denis, John, Liam and Gerard.

DEATH took place 9th August 2013 of Jerry Mulvihill

Legendary Irish Dance Master and long time Kings Park resident. Jerry was born in 1921 in Moyvane, son of Paddy Mulvihill and Mary Ann Kiely. He took his first steps in Irish dancing at the age of four from dance master, Joe Enright also a native of Moyvane. He later took lessons from Jerry Molyneaux. In 1948, At age 17 he won the Irish national championship in stepdancing. Jerry emigrated to the United States where he settled in New York City and then in 1969 to Kings Park, LI. . It is said that his brother persuaded him to stay in New York. Jerry is survived by his sister Liza age 98 who now resides at St Ita’s and was predeceased by siblings Mick, William, Paddy, Martin, Mary, Lena and Hannie, they were First Cousin to the great musician Martin Mulvihill of Glin. Funeral mass was held at St. Joseph RC Church on Church Street in Kings Park.

DEATH took place of Fr Sean Dillon on Thursday 24th October 2013 at St Patrick's Missionary Society, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow and formerly of Listowel, Lisselton. and Nigeria. Deeply regretted by his sisters-in-law, Bridie and Ann, his nieces and nephews his Kiltegan family. Father Sean is predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Dermot and Michael. Funeral Mass on Sunday, Oct. 27th, at 12 noon followed by burial in the Society Cemetery. Fr Sean was ordained in 1951 and attended Churchyard masses in the Parish in remembrance of his Connor ancestors. In his young day he was a regular visitor to his relations Jack Maggie O Connor of Gortdronagowna. Jack and Mai died in 1984 and Sheila O Connor died in 1986 and are buried at Ahavvoher.

“He spent time working in Athea in 1949 and was a member of the Athea team that won the county junior football final that year. He always looked back very fondly on his short time there before returning to Dublin where he married my mother Treasa and they settled down to life in Rathfarnham.

DEATH; Fr. William P Lane born 1925 at New Street, Abbeyfeale, died in Seattle, Washington USA on Saturday, October 19th 2013. Following Requiem Mass Fr Bill Lane was burial in Seattle on Monday, October 28th 2013 on his 88th birthday. A Mass for the repose of the soul of Fr. Bill Lane late of Abbeyfeale and Seattle will be held in Abbeyfeale Church on Wednesday, November 15 next at 7pm.

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has today expressed his condolences following the death on 26th October 2013 of former Fianna Fáil TD and Senator Denis Foley.

Deputy Martin commented, "I was saddened to learn of the death of former colleague Denis Foley. Denis represented the people of Kerry North as a Fianna Fáil representative for almost twenty years with diligence and great commitment. During this time he worked with colleagues from all parties to advance the interests and issues of his community.

"He began his career in local Government as a councillor on Kerry County Council where his daughter Cllr Norma Foley continues the family's tradition of public service as a committed local councillor.

"In the Dáil and the Seanad, Denis was a tireless champion for the interests of his Kerry constituents.

DEATH took place on 11th November 2013, of Christina (Chrissie) Scanlon (née Kelly of Tullamore, Listowel) of Upper Aughrim, Moyvane. Chrissie was predeceased by her husband Tade and is survived by sons Michael, Timmy and Maurice, daughters Mary, Margaret and Christina, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Requiem Mass for Christina Scanlon was celebrated by Fr Lucid in Moyvane Church on 13th November 2013, Mary Mulvihill sang the hymns. Chrissie was laid to rest beside her husband Tade at Ahavoher graveyard, Knockanure. Tade died 8th February 1987 aged 76 years. Chrissie was the last of a family of 11.

DEATH has occurred on 13th November 2013, of Bridie Meade, Knocknacaheragh, Kilmorna, Duagh. Bridie is survived by her sister Sr. Mercedes at Monasterevin, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, great-grandnephew and great-grandniece. Fr McMahon celebrated the Requiem mass for Bridie Meade on Friday the 15th of November at Duagh Church, Bridie was laid to rest in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh. Bridie was daughter of Jack Meade of Kilmorna and Catherine Fitzmaurice of Moyvane. Bridie Meade was predeceased by her brother Joe and sister Hannah Moloney.

MASS was celebrated on Nov. 20th 2013 in the office of Listowel Credit Union. The Celebrant was Canon Declan O Connor Listowel. Representatives from the 13 Credit Union's from Chapter 23, Abbeyfeale, Ballybunion, Caherciveen, Clanmaurice, Comhar Creidmheasa Corca Dhuibhne, Desmond, Kenmare, Killarney, Killorglin, Listowel, Milltown, Rathmore and Tralee were present. The Mass is to remember our members who have died in the past 12 months. The Mass is celebrated in a different Credit Union each November.

DEATH occurred at St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastle West of Catherine (Kit) Shine of Dalton Street, Athea. Deceased, whose maiden name was Fitzgerald, was a native of Keale North but lived most of her life in Athea. She was pre-deceased by her late husband Dan Shine several years ago. Kit, who had reached her 90’s, was a very religious person and a regular attendant at the Masses in her local Church. She also visited Lourdes and many pilgrimages. Up to a few years ago she could be regularly seen out on her bicycle cycling through the village or on the way to visit her brother Tom in Keale.

Few weeks ago since her daughter Breda Carey died . She was married to retired Garda Jerry Carey who was a native of Galway. Kit Shine was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery after requiem Mass on 17th November 2013.

 

 

DEATH has taken place of Jack Connolly, Ballymuddagh, Glin, on November 16th, 2013, (in his 97th year). He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Patrick, Thomas, Gerard, John, daughters Ann, Sally, Una and Mairead, Predeceased by his son Joseph. Also survived by daughters-in-law Elaine and Anne and Thomas's partner Maureen, sons-in-law Charles and Thomas, grandchildren Laura, Michael, Robert, Jack and Thomas, sister-in- law Sr. Josephine (Fermoy) In the Church of the Immaculate Conception Glin, Requiem Mass was celebrated for Jack Connolly on 19th November 2013, Burial in Kilfergus Cemetery, Glin.

Sadly missed by his family, neighbours and friends in London & Athea. Requiem Mass for Johnny, took place in Kilburn Church, Quakes Road, London on Thursday 28th November 2013. Remains came to Shannon on Friday, 29th November, Requiem Mass for Johnny Collins at St. Bartholomew's Church, Athea on Saturday 30th November 2013, burial after in Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea.

DEATH took place on 22nd November 2013 of Liam Collins of Springmount, Duagh. DEATH took place on 4th December 2013 of Tommy Foley of Coolnagraigue, Lenamore, Ballylongford. Tommy is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Clodagh, his father Tom, sister, Kathleen, brothers, Jim, Sean and Jer , aunts and uncle. Requiem Mass for Tommy Foley was celebrated By Fr Kennelly assisted by four priests and hymns were sung by Elaine Foley in St. Michael's Church, Ballylongford on Saturday 7th December 2013. Tommy was laid to rest afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey. Tommy was son of Thomas and the late Maureen Halpin Foley, Gortdromasillihy, Moyvane.

 

DEATH has taken place of Sheila Carmody, nee Brosnan, of Ballyduff, Knocknagoshel, aged 99, predeceased by husband Bob Carmody, several years ago, survived by sons, Ned and Pat, daughters, Marie, Anna and Joan. Sheila was a native of Dromadamore, Lyreacrompane. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Knocknagoshel on Thursday 28th November 2013, Sheila Carmody was afterwards laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Knocknagoshel.

DEATH took place in America last week of Elizabeth (Betty) Newmann (nee) McElligott formerly of Lissaniska. Knockanure, Co Kerry.

Elizabeth Margaret Neumann, 45, of Ridgefield, wife of Bob Neumann passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Elizabeth was born on August 22, 1968 to John and Margaret (Enright) McElligott; she was one of seven children. Elizabeth moved to the United States at the age of 17. She spent most of her life as a caregiver helping many people in the area. Elizabeth was predeceased by her father, John McElligott and mother, Margaret McElligott. In addition to her husband Bob Neumann of Ridgefield, CT, Elizabeth is survived by brothers, John, Michael and Thomas McElligott; sisters, Mary Kennedy and husband James, Margaret Whyte and husband Eamonn, and her sister Siobhan McElligott. Elizabeth is also survived by her father and mother-in-law; Harry and Lorraine Neumann, brothers in law and their wives, Chip and Pam Neumann, Russ and Holly Neumann, Jeff and Mary Neumann; sisters in law, Janet Neumann, Shaylene Neumann Kelley and husband Joe Kelley; nieces and nephews, Aaron, Jake and Megan Whyte, John and Stephanie Kennedy, Heather and Rob Salaga, Bridget and Conor Lander, Leah, Brooke, Kyle, Jamie, Cory and Ryan Neumann, Shaylene and Russell Fink, Michael and Tracy Mallozzi, and Billy, Abby and Colin Kelley.

Requiem Mass was celebrated on Friday 20th December 2013 at the Church of the Assumption, Abbeyfeale for Phyl O Kelly, she was laid to rest afterwards at Reilig Íde Naofa Abbeyfeale. Phyl was born at Kilmorna Post Office. Daughter of Jack Brandon, her mother was Teahan from South Kerry.

DEATH took place on 21st December 2013 of Eileen Moriarty (nee Buckley), late of Moriarty's Drapery, 45 William Street, Listowel. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Denis & son Ned and is survived by children, Michael, Tom (Cork), Anne O Callaghan (Mallow) & Denis. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Church, Listowel on Monday 23rd December 2013, Eileen Moriarty was burial afterwards in St. Michael's Cemetery. Eileen was a great favourite with the older generation, as she always knew how to dress them.
