KNOCKANURE

CHOIR is composed of children and adults and they give a greats sense of celebration when they performed on Christmas Eve, several soloists performed with credit including five year old Niamh McAuliffe, Christy Goulding and Gerard Donegan.

It was easy to see the contribution of the teachers and the school in the Crib procession, the school music class who got a special show of appreciation for their part and of course the choir contained a big contingent associated with Knockanure National School. Mass was celebrated by Fr Lucid and Fr O Callaghan and a fine group of Altar servers. The priests thanked all for their help at the celebrations and for keeping things going through the year. The Crib was again well and tastefully presented and many including the children visited it. Thanks are due to all who were preparing over the past weeks for their Christmas Eve Mass, the choir give a greats sense of celebration when they perform. As usual at this time of year we remember all who were not able to be with us to celebrate, one great consolation was the Radio Link it puts so many in touch with what is happening and helps people to renew and relive precious moments.

CRIB in Duagh is attracting great interest, last year people from a wide district went to see it.

The relics of the crib venerated as the one used by the baby Jesus were brought to Rome from Palestine c 642, the relic is now in poor condition and experts will decide on their restoration in the New Year.,

to happen at all.

NEW Moon on January 8th , the weather is mild wet and windy, we should be thankful for global warming, On January 8th 1814 Colonel Peter Hawker wrote in his diary that the weather was so severe that people were making puddings from larks and other birds which came into both house and sheds, even on the furze and on the shore they could be easily taken with the hand, he was sailing all day and did not see a flock of birds at Poole Harbour near Wareham, but he picked up pocketfuls of larks that had perished of fallen into the water.

Worry: At present it is estimated that 1 billion people worldwide have no clean water and millions more are refugees and we worry about air pollution.

John Evelyn wrote on January 24th 1684; frost continuing more and more severe on The Themes before London all sorts of trades and commodities even a printing press which charged 6 pence to print your name and date; Trees splitting as if hit by lightening, shipping stopped, smog so severe you could not see across the street, no water in pipes, every moment was full of disastrous accidents. Colonel Peter Hawker wrote on Jan. 27th 1823; A sudden thaw, The harbour which was frozen appeared like a floating island as it was carried away by a high spring tide. Despite the heavy rain he went out shooting and brought home 17 geese, his clothes being wet he had to use the tail of his shirt to wipe out the pan of his gun. Charles Compton tells us that the weather for the month of January 1882 was wonderfully mild, more like a gentle spring, than the usual dull, bitter cold season, the air was clear and fresh.

THOUGHT: "Now let me say that the next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the non-violent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. Every man is somebody because he is a child of God...Man is more than a tiny vagary of whirling electrons or a wisp of smoke from a limitless smoldering. Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such...And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won't exploit people, we won't trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won't kill anybody."
