WEATHER has waterlogged most grazing land; some fields will have to be reseeded as substantial damage has been caused. Dairy farmers stand to loose nearly a E1billion this year due to the steep fall in milk price, the extra cost of production and the reduction in yields will put more out of production. The EU may have given stability and better prices over past years, but the future looks bleak with few employed on the land and no fishermen. One bit of good news is that the weather greatly improved last weekend and the price of silage wrap is falling, silage cutting has started.

THOUGHT: "So you say you can't take it, the price is too high. The feelings are gone it seems the rivers run dry. You never imagined it could turn out so rough. You give and give and give and still it's never enough. Your emotions have vanished that once held a thrill, you wonder if love could be alive in you still. But that ring on your finger was put there to stay, you'll never forget the words you promised that day. Jesus didn't die for you because it was fun, He hung there for love because it had to be done, and in spite of the anguish his word was fulfilled, cause love is not a feeling it's an act of your will." Don Francisco.

THOUGHT: Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

2. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

4. When you say, 'I love you ,' mean it.

5. When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye.

6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

7. Believe in love at first sight.

8. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

10. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

In the footsteps of saints: A visit to the Chinese village where 3,000 Catholics were massacred...

Posted:

I had visited villages before where simple men and women—farmers who worked the land in bitter conditions—had earned the crowns of martyrdom, but I knew that I would soon stand where the largest anti-Christian massacre in China’s long history had occurred. I would soon stand on earth that had absorbed the blood of the 3,000 Catholics who were killed during the fevered violence of the 1900 Boxer Uprising. I was taken first to Wuyi, where two Jesuits died alone at the altar, and then to Zhujiahe, where two other Jesuits died along with 3,000 poor Catholic villagers.

The Sacred Heart Review > 29 January 1916

O Connell.

Father Dc Smet interested in his " dear Indians " would fill pages. Daniel O'Connell was one of the leaders he met. Bishop Hughes who accompanied the missionary on his second European trip introduced " the Apostle of the Indians " to the great Irishman. With the Father's own reminiscence of the incident we shall bring this review to a close. His letters form a very interesting part of the story:— " I have been present," writes Father Dc Smet, "at a gathering of two hundred thousand people, and had the honor of sitting in the same carriage with the great liberator, Daniel O'Connell. The people's enthusiasm knew no bounds; we were literally carried in triumph to the meeting-place. . . . Not a word of the stirring discourse escaped me. That day Irish eloquence resounded in all its glory. " What a spectacle it was for me, a missionary who, after being buried for five years in the heart of the American desert, and now thrown by chance on Irish soil, found myself beside one of the greatest men of the day—the only agitator who has ever instigated a revolution without spilling one drop of blood. '' What a man ! I can not express my sensations and feelings on that occasion. Never did I behold a brighter eye, a more benevolent face, a more imposing and commanding person. His words flow like honey from his lips; he enraptures and captivates and places you at your ease in a moment, just like an old friend and acquaintance."
