John had a profound influence on me. I have overwhelmingly positive memories of training in Furbo boxing and representing the club as a teenager and young adult. John taught me life lessons through boxing. He was a coach, a mentor and a friend. He lived every moment of the bout when in the corner. He instilled a confidence in me and a desire to win in all aspects of life.My brother Darren and I, thoroughly enjoyed John's company. Furbo boxing club was a sanctuary for us for a number of years. A place to learn the beautiful sport, to put in solid work and to build character. I am forever grateful to John for his dedication to us and to the sport. John was a great man and  a Galway boxing legend. RIP John. Sincere condolences to Vera and the family.

It is believed that Timmy Noonan's death is being ascribed to 'Sudden Adult Death Syndrome' a day after he had played for Moyvane against Tarbert. Timmy aged 26-year-old, worked for Kerry Ingredients and was found in an unresponsive state. Fr Kevin McNamara P.P. said; “POPULAR TIMMY GONE – BUT HIS MEMORY WILL LIVE ON. It is difficult and impossible to take it in that Timmy Noonan has left us all so quickly and suddenly.  Another hard and painful blow to our Parish.  Timmy best described as a character who left his imprint in so many hearts, not least of all when he worked in Holly’s.  So many have spoken lovingly on how cheerful and helpful he was in serving.  Also a larger than life character with the GAA Club.  Timmy left a big imprint on the Club and was always to the fore in selling the Club Lotto tickets.  We all ask ‘Why?’ – I find these words encouraging.  ‘My life is but the weaving between God and me.  I only choose the colours He weaveth steadily. Sometimes He weaveth sorrow and I feel a foolish pride.  I forget He sees the upper and the underside. We are always in the hands of God, and He is the only one that sees the full picture’ Timmy and John McGrath were great pals.  Now together again.  Come on now lads, send us down a few smiles and blessing upon all of us in the Boro, from your presence with Jesus”.
